A plain cheese pizza is the most useful thing on any chain menu, and not because it is the best-tasting. It is the reference price. Every topping charge, every specialty pizza premium and every deal saving is measured against what a cheese pizza costs at your store, so knowing that number turns the rest of the menu from guesswork into arithmetic.
What you are actually getting
A layer of tomato sauce, a full covering of shredded mozzarella, and whichever crust you pick. Because there is nothing else on it, crust choice matters more here than on any other pizza: a hand-tossed cheese pizza and a thin-crust cheese pizza are noticeably different products, not the same pizza on a different base.
Where it fits on value
On its own, at full menu price, a large cheese pizza is rarely the best value on the board — the carryout and bundle offers almost always beat it. Where it earns its place is inside a deal. If a bundle lets you pick any two items at a flat rate, a cheese pizza is one of the cheapest things you can put in that slot, which is fine if you are feeding someone who does not want toppings anyway.
